GRAMERCY PILATES NYC is proud to be an Approved PSAP Pilates School.

The Pilates School Approval Program (PSAP) is a Program of the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). It recognizes Pilates schools that have gone through a rigorous process to show their compliance with Educational Standards.

Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program

Our Spring Equipment Course starts May 11th.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  • Foundation Learning Lecture Sections with in depth information covering Anatomy, Biomechanics and our Unique Movement Principles.
  • Integrated Teaching Approach to facilitate your learning process and connecting the factual evidence of why Pilates really works!
  • Classical and Contemporary Mat and Equipment Training for Beginner to Advanced levels for the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair Barrel and may other Pilates props. .
  • Advanced Teaching Techniques to create customized Pilates sessions for all types of clients. ..
  • Special Populations and Clients with Medical Conditions covering postural and alignment issues, disc herniations, shoulder, neck, knee, hip, ankle and foot problems, pre and post natal and much more. .
  • Supervised Teaching, On-Going Student Evaluations and Testing to ensure that you are progressing to the best of your teaching ability.
  • All-Inclusive Tuition and fully transparent with no "hidden costs". Your tuition covers everything!
  • Become a PMA Certified Teacher. Upon completion of our Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program, you will receive a Certificate and may then take the test to become a PMA Certified Teacher.

Our Mission is to produce Pilates Teachers that are well-versed about the kinesiological principles developed by Joseph Pilates while implementing new science from the 21st Century. Part I: The Mat Teacher Training Course

MAT COURSE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS*

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Have at least a high school diploma.

  • Have an understanding and proficiency with the Classical Pilates Mat exercises during the interview process with the Program Director.

MAT COURSE LECTURE GROUP DETAILS: (Total of 108 required hours)

  • 48 Course Lecture Group Class hours covering the following sections in the Mat Manual.

  • History of Joseph Pilates.

  • The Skeleton and Muscular Systems.

  • Integration of Anatomy, Biomechanics, and Movement.

  • Effective Cueing.& The Art of Observation.

  • Our Six Unique Movement Principles.

  • Beginner to Advanced Classical Mat Choreography with Tips and Modifications.

    Student Practice Time, completed after Lecture Group: (includes 5 free Mat Classes)

  • 20 hours of self-of self practice,

  • 10 hours of observation

  • 10 hours of unsupervised teaching

  • 10 hours of supervised teaching

  • 10 hours of teaching Mat Class.

    Program Director Supervision for all student supervised teaching, assessments and progress reports, written and manual tests.

    Free use of our studio for all student practice teaching.

    A Mat Certificate is awarded upon satisfactory completion of all required hours and passing the written and manual tests.

EQUIPMENT COURSE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS*

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Have at least a high school diploma.

  • Have an understanding and proficiency with the Classical Pilates Beginner and Intermediate Reformer and Tower exercises during the interview process with the Program Director.

EQUIPMENT COURSE LECTURE GROUP DETAILS: (Total of 357 required hours)

  • 72 Course Lecture Class hours covering the following sections in the Equipment Manual:

    Beginner to Advanced Classical Equipment Choreography with Contemporary Modifications.

  • Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Barrel, Spine Corrector and other Props.

  • Advanced Teaching Methods and Techniques for all levels.

  • Facilitating Client Alignment including proper stretching techniques using all equipment.

  • Special Populations/Clients with Medical Conditions

    Student Practice Time: completed after Lecture Group, (includes 5 Free Reformer/Tower Classes)

  • 80 hours of self-of self practice,

  • 50 hours of observation

  • 50 hours of unsupervised teaching

  • 30 hours of supervised teaching

  • 64 hours of Apprentice teaching of Private Sessions and Reformer/Tower Classes.

Program Director Supervision for all student supervised teaching, assessments and progress reports, written and manual tests.

Free use of our studio for all student practice teaching.

An Equipment Certificate is awarded upon satisfactory completion of all required hours and passing the written and manual tests.

Ernie Fossa

Owner and Studio Director  

Ernie, who founded Gramercy Pilates NYC in 2009, is an industry leader in Pilates education. He is an Owner and Director of Gramercy Pilates NYC and created and co-produced the world acclaimed Comprehensive Gramercy Pilates NYC Teacher Training Program. His passion for Pilates began over 20 years ago when began using it to rehabilitate a severe back condition. He received his Comprehensive Pilates Education from the Kane School in NYC. He’s been teaching Classical and Contemporary Pilates for over 15 years to clients that range from elite athletes to those who are post-operative. He has mentored numerous Pilates students in the Gramercy Pilates NYC Comprehensive Teacher Training Program and has guided many of them to become PMA Certified teachers. He is also Certified in Gyrotonic and the Core Align, has taught and participated in many Anatomy, Biomechanical and Advanced Teaching Workshops.

Kim Fielding

Director of Teacher Training

Kim Fielding holds a certificate in both Balanced Body and The Method Pilates. She has been in the fitness industry for 25 years and has been teaching Pilates for over 10 of those years. She received her B.A. in Psychology and did a Master’s program at Springfield College in Health Promotion/ Wellness Management with advanced study in Counseling. She was a teacher in the Mind Body Fitness training program with other faculty members including Lesley Powell, Doris Pasteleur-Hall and Dr. Martha Eddy at Movements Afoot. She taught the Pilates repertoire and question & answer program to go along with the Physical Mind Institute, The Method Pilates certificate. She also taught students Balanced Body Pilates Repertoire on a weekly basis. She has specialized training in MS and Parkinson’s disease, Somatics, Laban and Bartenieff Fundamentals. Fielding studied in the Somatic Movement Teacher Training program, Dynamic Embodiment, with Dr. Martha Eddy.
