Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program

Our Mission is to produce Pilates Teachers that are well-versed about the kinesiological principles developed by Joseph Pilates while implementing new science from the 21st Century. Further, to guide our students towards attaining a Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) Pilates Certification to become a PMA Certified Pilates Teacher.

  • Foundation Learning Lecture Sections on Anatomy, Biomechanics, Cueing, Observation and our Unique Movement Principles.
  • Integrated Teaching Approach that facilitates your learning process and helps you understand how and why the Pilates method of exercise really works!
  • Classical and Contemporary Mat and Equipment Training from Beginner to Advanced choreography including progressions and modifications.
  • Advanced Teaching Techniques including Facilitating Client Alignment and Special Populations/Clients with Medical Conditions.
  • High Educational Standards that include our Program Directors teaching the Mat and Equipment foundational lecture courses, supervising student teaching and providing manual and written student assessments and final practical testing.
  • On-Going Student Evaluations and Testing to ensure that you are progressing to the best of your teaching ability.
  • All-Inclusive Tuition and fully transparent with no "hidden costs." Your tuition covers everything you need to complete our Comprehensive Teacher Training Program.
  • A Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Certificate is awarded to you when you successfully complete both our Mat and Equipment teacher training courses. You may then take the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) test to attain your Pilates Certification to become a PMA Certified Teacher. Certified Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) Teacher.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS*

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Have at least a high school diploma.

  • Have an understanding and proficiency with the Classical Pilates Mat exercises during the interview process with the Program Director.

COURSE DETAILS
(108 required hours)

All inclusive tuition = $1,985.50 (payment plans available-see School Catalog)

Includes:

  • 48 Course Lecture class hours.

  • Mat Manual (150 pages fully bound in 4 color).

  • 5 Free Mat Classes.

  • 60 hours of self practice, teaching, observation and apprentice teaching hours of which 10 teaching hours being supervised by our Directors.

  • Student Assessment and Progress Reports, Written and Manual Tests.

  • Free use of our studio for your practice teaching.

Mat Lecture Class Curriculum

  • History of Joseph Pilates.

  • The Skeleton and Muscular Systems.

  • Integration of Anatomy, Biomechanics, and Movement.

  • Effective Cueing.

  • The Art of Observation.

  • Unique Movement Principles.

  • Beginner to Advanced Classical Mat Choreography with Tips and Modifications.

  • Have an understanding and proficiency with the Classical Pilates Beginner and Intermediate Reformer and Tower exercises during the interview process with the Program Director.

COURSE DETAILS
(357 required hours)

All inclusive tuition = $5,434.00 (payment plans available-see School Catalog)

Includes:

  • 72 Course Lecture class hours.

  • Equipment Manual (250 pages full bound in 4 color).

  • 5 Free Equipment Classes.

  • 285 hours of student self practice, teaching, observation, assisting and apprentice hours of which 30 teaching hours being supervised by our Directors.

  • Student Assessment and Progress Reports, Written and Manual Tests.

  • Free use of our studio for all of your practice teaching.

Equipment Lecture Class Curriculum

  • Beginner to Advanced Classical Equipment Choreography with Tips and Modifications.

  • Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Barrel, Spine Corrector and other Props.

  • Teaching Methods and Techniques for all levels.

  • Facilitating Client Alignment.

  • Special Populations/Clients with Medical Conditions.

Ernie Fossa

Owner and Director of Teacher Training 

Ernie, who founded Gramercy Pilates NYC in 2009, is an industry leader in Pilates education. He is an Owner and Director of Gramercy Pilates NYC and created and co-produced the world acclaimed Comprehensive Gramercy Pilates NYC Teacher Training Program. His passion for Pilates began over 20 years ago when began using it to rehabilitate a severe back condition. He received his Comprehensive Pilates Education from the Kane School in NYC. He’s been teaching Classical and Contemporary Pilates for over 15 years to clients that range from elite athletes to those who are post-operative. He has mentored numerous Pilates students in the Gramercy Pilates NYC Comprehensive Teacher Training Program and has guided many of them to become PMA Certified teachers. He is also Certified in Gyrotonic and the Core Align, has taught and participated in many Anatomy, Biomechanical and Advanced Teaching Workshops and has been a member of the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) since 2009.

Kim Fielding

Director of Teacher Training

Kim Fielding holds a certificate in both Balanced Body and The Method Pilates. She has been in the fitness industry for 25 years and has been teaching Pilates for over 10 of those years. She received her B.A. in Psychology and did a Master’s program at Springfield College in Health Promotion/ Wellness Management with advanced study in Counseling. She was a teacher in the Mind Body Fitness training program with other faculty members including Lesley Powell, Doris Pasteleur-Hall and Dr. Martha Eddy at Movements Afoot. She taught the Pilates repertoire and question & answer program to go along with the Physical Mind Institute, The Method Pilates certificate. She also taught students Balanced Body Pilates Repertoire on a weekly basis. She has specialized training in MS and Parkinson’s disease, Somatics, Laban and Bartenieff Fundamentals. Fielding studied in the Somatic Movement Teacher Training program, Dynamic Embodiment, with Dr. Martha Eddy.
